Immigration In Arizona

I agree with my classmate’s blog. By passing this law the police have to write to ask anyone who looks suspicious for there papers this pushing the constitutional rights given to us by being a citizen in this country. The new immigration law in Arizona gives the law enforcement a right to interrogate a person if the so much as walks down an ally the wrong way. Yes they may need to be deported but this doesn’t sound like the best way to handle it. There may not be one right way to handle the situation but what is going to happen when the police start harassing a league citizen of this country for their papers? Will Arizona be looking at a law suit? This could all be issues that may happen in the future.

Should we cancel the national day of prayer?

The national day of prayer is a day where you give thanks to your god. It doesn’t bias any form of religion and it isn’t mandatory. A lot of people don’t even know when the national day of prayer is. So why get rid of it? About a month ago a federal judge from Wisconsin said that having a national day of prayer violates the 1st amendment. If that is the case doesn’t having in god we trust in the pledge of allegiance? Or when people ask god to bless America? Doesn't those have to deal with religion? We are in fact suggesting that there is a god and that we as a country acknowledge that. America was always a place that no matter what your beliefs are you have the freedom to practice that religion openly. Now president Obama, his administration and a federal judge from Wisconsin want to cancel the national day of prayer all together, saying it violates the 1st amendment clause. When this county was originally established by the pilgrims who were mostly puritans, they wanted freedom from the English church and a place where they can practice their religion openly. That’s how America has been since the puritans, a place where no matter what your beliefs are you have the right to practice them openly. That’s why we have the Jehovah witness knocking on your door on Saturdays. Is it all that terrible to give a religion a day where they think that they should spend some time and thank their god for whatever they want? Even an Atheist should be able to except that not everyone shares their beliefs and they have the right not here in America

The Census

I agree with my classmate, the census is very important for states epically the big ones like Texas. If every person in Texas did fill out there census forms Texas will gain at least two seats in the House of Representatives. That will give Texas 34 seats instead of 32 still making them the second biggest state in the House of Representatives. Once Texas gets two more seats they will get more funding to help everyone, because Texas runs on a debit card and doesn’t go into great debt every year. Although it does provide a lot of jobs to people, the census only happens every ten years meaning the jobs it does provides are only temporary and a great way to make some extra money on the side but it wouldn’t replace a full time job at longer term places.

Healthcare

A big issue in government is the healthcare bill. If everything stays on track and doesn’t get held up or sent back to congress we can start seeing changes in our healthcare system as early as 2011 starting with Medicare. By getting a 50% discount on brand name drugs. Everyone else will start to see changes in 2014. it will be mandatory to purchase health insurance and health insurance companies will not be allowed to deny anyone including people with preexisting problems that would normal be turned down. This health insurance bill is going to cost $940 billion over a ten year span not including how much it’s going to cost over a twenty or even thirty year span. There are over 30 million people who aren’t insured. Some of them can’t afford to pay for health insurance, some have health problems and can’t get insurance either because they have a good enough job that offers a good health insurance plan or they just can’t find an insurance company that will cover them. Others are either too actually find a job that offers health insurance. For example, HEB offers a health insurance plan to their employees. As for those people who can’t get health insurance because of preexisting problems this bill is going to make there lives’s a lot easier and take a lot of stress of their families and friends who are trying to help them. But for the people who can’t afford to pay for health insurance is going get help paying for it. Which means the money is going to come out of everyone else’s pay check.

The Healthcare Bill

I disagree with this article from the Huffington post. The article Title is “Health Care Victory was a Historic achievement for women” the article says “we'd given voice to the injustices that women face when securing health care: being asked to pay more for the same exact coverage as men, being denied care for being a victim of domestic violence, or for having had a C-section, or even a yeast infection... in short, for being a woman.” Saying that this effects woman more than males isn’t right, Just as many males are rejected health insurance for reasons that affect their gender as well. Picking out a few who were denied health insurance doesn’t mean that this is a problem that is going to happen to any woman who has a c-section. There could be several reasons why the women were denied for health insurance. For example, the health insurance plan they had could have been really bad or going under in this economy.
The article then moves onto giving an example of a family who had to sell their house because the dad got cancer and had to get treatments that they couldn’t pay for. The new bill says that everybody has to have health insurance and won’t be denied it. So what’s going to happen when a person has healthcare and gets cancer that requires expensive medical treatments that they can’t afford? Having health insurance doesn’t mean that they will or have to pay for everything. You can still rack up a huge debt in medical bills with health insurance.
The article ends with how this bill will produce many jobs and will reshape our economy. This bill may produce some more job opportunities, but who will pay for the lower class people who can’t afford to pay for themselves? The government isn’t going to do it. It will come out of the pockets of hard working people that are trying to take care of their own families.

Reviews in public schools

I agree with this article from the Boston globe, but failing to review teachers and not letting go of the ones who don’t know what they are doing doesn’t stop in Boston, this is a problem all around the country. There are incompetent teachers in schools all around this country. The article says that by some estimates there are about 10 to 15 percent of teachers in a typical large school district lack the expertise, temperament or classroom skills to be an effective educator. If a student gets at least three of them in their time in school there chances of getting into a good university isn’t very good. The student’s graders will be bad, and they won’t know how to succeed in a university setting. With the school administration saying they already have tools in place to remove these teachers, if so why haven’t they done it already? There are plenty of good teachers and students graduating from a university that are looking for a job. It isn’t that hard to remove the worst of teachers, the article says that if a teacher gets two or more negative evaluations and has been give help on how to improve their teaching style and don’t change the school administration can dismiss them and find someone else more suitable for the job, and they aren’t doing it as often as they should be. This is a problem that is effecting the next generation of people that will one day be expected to lead this country in the further.

A faster way to travel on land.

I chose this article because it didn’t talk about how bad the economy is the snowstorms up north or the recovery process in Hattie. This article talks about the future. On ways that could make five hour trips in a car to three hour trips on a high speed train. The trains wouldn’t be finished for another twenty plus years if the plan is passed by congress and future presidents keep the process going. The high speed trains could get up to two hundred miles an hour. They would be in almost every state which means relatively easy access for a lot of people. A big down side to the trains is they will cost close to eight billion by the time they are finished. On the bright side they will provide a lot more jobs.
